Flugsteig A-West, Frankfurt

The new runway (spanning a 2,800 metres) runs parallel to the existing starting and landing runways. The axle distance to the northern runway is approx. 1,400 m. This means it is possible to carry out parallel approaches on the new runway to the northwest and the existing southern runway, in contrast to the existing parallel runway system which are close together. About 200 metres away to the side of the newly erected runway are parallel taxiways. Both, the landing runway and the parallel taxiways are connected to each other by six high-speed taxiways and one taxiway each at the eastern and western end of the runway. Two taxiways connect to the existing airport grounds across the ICE railway, the A3 motorway and the airport ring. These two taxiways comprise five individual bridges; the taxiway bridge Ost1 and West1 are the largest and most complex. These two bridges are used by aircraft to cross the A3 motorway and the ICE train track. Also, there are a further three bridges, West 2, Ost 2 and Ost 3. The West 2 and Ost 2 bridges pass over the airport ring road, while the Ost 3 bridge is located on the existing airport grounds. On the runway axis, the taxing bridge West 1 is more than 90 meters long and up to 117 meters wide. Also on the runway axis, the taxing bridge Ost 1 is more than 200 metres long and 18 metres wide. Around 1.6 kilometres of the Okrifteler Straße was rebuilt, including a cycle path and pavement. As on the existing runways, all-weather operations are possible on the new landing runway, so that incoming flights can be carried out according to the ILS category IIIb.(Source: www.fraport.de/de/konzern/flughafen-und-region/ausbau-fra.html)
