Explosive demonstration with car battery

What happens when lithium-ion batteries burst into flames? Visitors to the REWIMET Innovation Forum Recycling Region Harz were able to see for themselves at the fire test facility at the central STÖBICH site in Goslar.

This explosion even made it into the transregional news coverage: as part of the Innovation Forum Recycling Region Harz, initiated by REWIMET e. v., the fire protection experts from STÖBICH invited visitors to a spectacular fire test. "During the demonstration, we short-circuited a car battery from a small car that was 95 percent charged, so that it overheated and started to burn," explained Sebastian Goedecke from STÖBICH. In the technical fire protection division, STÖBICH develops safety boxes for lithium-ion batteries. These carry the risk of exploding - and then things get really dicey, as not only the fire but also the toxic gases spread rapidly.

With the safe storage and loading solutions with integrated filter system, something like that can't happen. The special safety cabinets and boxes are ideal wherever many batteries are in use every day, for example in bicycle stores that stock e-bikes and need to store the corresponding batteries.
