Wood City | Helsinki, Finland

Back to nature is the new sustainability, and here Finland's capital is setting forward-looking standards. The metropolis in the far north has long been considered a smart city. Since 2021, Helsinki has been home to "Wood City," an entire city district made of renewable raw materials.

An urban district in futuristic design, designed by architect Anttinen Oiva, extends directly along the waterfront. At the Jätkäsaari harbor, residential buildings, office complexes, a hotel and a parking garage in the Nordic style form part of the modern skyline. All made of wood, but still state of the art.

STÖBICH solutions also placed great emphasis on innovation in preventive structural fire protection. A total of 13 fire protection curtains of the Fibershield®-I series provide the necessary safety. The "I" in the product name stands for "Insulation", i.e. thermal insulation, which the high-tech fabric provides in addition to fire protection. The systems can be installed almost invisibly, extend fully automatically in the event of fire, and require less steel in production and correspondingly fewer emissions than solid steel doors. Cleverly thought out and carved from similarly smart wood as the Wood City concept.
